Field Updates

July 13, 2017 – Archaeology field work is now underway, and traces of the intense battlefield are being found. This musket ball was found on the outskirts of the Native village that was attacked May 19, 1676. This 63 caliber musket ball may have been fired by an English soldier or Native warrior (both equipped with muskets during King Philip’s War) indicating the initial English assault on the village or the early Native counterattack on the fleeing English force.
